These competitive games use small groups of players, small areas of ice, and short shifts to create intense, game-like situations and ultimately a high level of play. All of these drills take place inside the blue line and are played cross-ice to create a small ice surface. Coaches Beaney and Gerrish use this chaos with a purpose approach to enhance player skills and improve hockey sense. The games are modified by putting the goals in various positions, using more than one puck, limiting where players are allowed to move, and creating and eliminating rules.
